January 2002

Dear Mosquitoes,

Here comes the year 2002. As usual we had a wonderful off-season and several of us even got to enjoy the Hawks awesome victory down in San Antonio over Texas Tech in the Alamo bowl. Football is all over with now and so we must move on to the next phase of the year, which includes biking, of course. Luckily during the football season, we didn’t have any fires on the bus so hopefully the repairs will stay to a minimum this year. We wish you all a wonderful new year and look forward to our adventures in 2002 with the best biking team in the world, Team Mosquito.

As far as rides go, we started the year off with the DRIFT ride in mid January in Des Moines. There were several members heading the team, which included the Klinks, who now live in Des Moines. It was a good time from what I hear, but the word out of the ride is that Klink is no longer doing any "stupid drinking". He claims that includes shots etc. I guess we will see how long that lasts, with the BRR ride around the corner. That ride is celebrating its 25th year this weekend. We would love to have everyone come join us on Friday and Saturday in Perry for the festivities. If you want some details, contact myself or Klink at klink@teammosquito.com. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and stay warm for us.

This is also the time of year that the route for RAGBRAI will come out. You can always check the www.ragbrai.org to get the latest updated info on where the ride goes. The overnight towns should be out this weekend. We can only hope that Dysart gets included this year! I am hoping we get a little to the north so that we can avoid some of the hills. It really doesn’t matter since we always seem to get where we are going, but at least Majerle (pronounced marley) wouldn’t have to sag again this year!

Please send me the dues of $15 for your membership dues. You are welcome to enclose more if you would like, but we will take $15 for now. You can mail that to me (2970 Winston Circle, Marion, IA 52302) or you can send it via paypal over the internet.

As far as other exciting mosquito news goes, there is very little at this time. What does everyone think about red, white and blue tie-dyes for this year’s shirts? That is one option that we have. There are also several other ideas that are being worked on at this time. We really don’t have anything planned for the bus this year. Does anyone have any ideas on improvements that they think should be made to the beast? You know that these busses are becoming extinct. I don’t believe that Abacus will have their bus anymore, especially with the unfortunate circumstances regarding Charlie. The Red Eyes don’t have theirs anymore and Team Buzzz is thinking about getting rid of theirs. . Some teams just can’t seem to keep it together like we do. We are soooo coooool!

Hope to see you all on the BRR and take care of yourselves.

Team Mosquito
